Chapter 1 Questions

1. International Business is a business that engages in international economic activities or the action of doing business abroad. Global Business is business around the globe, which consists of both international and domestic activities. International Business focuses on competition within developed countries, while global businesses focuses on business activities within the emerging market.

2. It is important to study global business because of three reasons. First, it advances your employability and career in the global economy. Then it prepares you for possible expatriate assignments. Studying global business also gives you strong competence in interacting with foreign suppliers, partners, competitors and the opportunity to working in foreign owned companies within your own country.

3. An expatriate manager is a manager who works outside his or her native country. If given the opportunity to be an expatriate manager, I would love to work in locations such as Amsterdam and Italy where tourism is high. The expatriate manager position I wish to fill would be one consisting in motels, or resort locations where I can assist the many different tourist with a place to stay that gives the warmth and comfortableness of being home but the joy of being in a new place that one would never want to leave.

4. Globalization can be described using three different views. The first view being that globalization is a new phenomenon as a result of recent technological innovations and Western beliefs. The second view is that globalization has existed throughout history. Lastly, globalization is also viewed as a pendulum that swings from one extreme to another from time to time.
