Reflection Paper

For a long time, I had no idea what I wanted to do. Freshman year of high school I was bombarded with choices and people who wanted me to make a decision as soon as possible. After trying out a few things, it eventually became very clear what I wanted to do: nursing. I had never really considered it as an option up until then, since I didn’t have any personal experiences with nurses. But the minute I realized it was something I could do, I knew it was God’s calling for me, because there was no way I would have ever come to that conclusion on my own without Him showing me the path.

Some of the basic characteristics that all nurses have to have are these: compassion, empathy, adaptability, good organization and time management, hard working, and most importantly, to be a nurse you have to be willing to sacrifice. While I’m still working on organization, I’m already prepared with the other skills required to be a nurse. Ever since I was little I’ve always had a bleeding heart, and I would always help other people whenever I could. Whether it was physically helping them carry things or just being a shoulder to cry on, I love being there for people. As far as adaptability and hard working, since I had a job senior year of high school I had to learn how to be flexible without overworking myself and still having enough time to do the things that are important to me. If I hadn’t had a job I I probably wouldn’t have the time management skills I have now, which I’m so thankful for. I feel that I’ve been called to nursing for all these reasons, and also because I want to make an impact in peoples’ lives, no matter how big or small it might be.
