1. INTRODUCTION
An effective teacher is an effective classroom manager. Basically the teacher is the core of the
classroom where various conditions should be provided for achieving the teaching objectives and for
improving the learning process. One of these conditions is classroom management which is considered
to be ‘the actions and strategies teachers use to solve the problem of order in classrooms (Doyle,
1986; in Stronge, Tucker, Hindman, 2004: 64). This assignment will aim to visit the various structures
to effectively manage a classroom in the education system. Characteristics of a good classroom
manager are common to a good educator and essential to learner achievement. This assignment will
therefore visit the following factors contributing to effective classroom management: physical
environment, verbal communication, non-verbal communication, classroom policy, and application of
the 20-step discipline model. In its entirety it will aim to put forth methods which can be applied to
create both a teaching and learning experience and environment that is favourable for all the intended
role players.
