1. INTRODUCTION

An effective teacher is an effective classroom manager. Basically the teacher is the core of the

classroom where various conditions should be provided for achieving the teaching objectives and for

improving the learning process. One of these conditions is classroom management which is considered

to be ‘the actions and strategies teachers use to solve the problem of order in classrooms (Doyle,

1986; in Stronge, Tucker, Hindman, 2004: 64). This assignment will aim to visit the various structures

to effectively manage a classroom in the education system. Characteristics of a good classroom

manager are common to a good educator and essential to learner achievement. This assignment will

therefore visit the following factors contributing to effective classroom management: physical

environment, verbal communication, non-verbal communication, classroom policy, and application of

the 20-step discipline model. In its entirety it will aim to put forth methods which can be applied to

create both a teaching and learning experience and environment that is favourable for all the intended

role players.
