Abstract

Cassandra, an organizational consultant, was hired by the management at AeroTech to provide assistance in determining the best courses of action for the company to resolve performance and training issues. Prior to providing assistance, Cassandra determined that there was a need to collect additional data. She drafted a proposal for management for them to understand why there is a need for additional data, the types of data-gathering to be used, how the data will be used, and what insight will the data provide towards the problem’s root cause. There are reasons to collect data prior to rushing to any decision as outlined by Nadler to include a better understanding of the organization, gets the organization talking, and fosters ongoing communication. Three data-gathering techniques have been selected to be used: individual interviews, focus groups, and unobtrusive measures. The data will be complied in three main areas – organizational, group, and individual. By collecting and analyzing the data it will aid management in identifying the root cause and provide them with the information needed to move forward.
