Case Project 1-1, 1-2, 1-3

1-1 What type of server do you recommend to Thrift Towne and why?

I would give two recommendations depending on what the company wanted to do in it’s future. I would recommend to them either a pier to pier network or a Client/Server network. I made this choice because they are both relatively low cost and easy maintenance. The pier to pier network would cost the least of the two and would allow for each computer to communicate and files that would be needed and the only requirements would be some decently sized Ethernet cords depending on computer locations within the store. However if they ever look to expand I would recommend upgrading to a Client/Server system to reduce strain on the network and they would then have to choice of buying a server or using one of their current computers as a server. I would recommend them to purchase a separate server because based on the computers listed they are older pc’s and would all need to be upgraded to run more efficiently (RAM, or CPU’s.) This would however raise prices and maintenance cost significantly. So based on the company’s future goals these are my recommendations.

1-2 What services can you recommend to Scoops to help with their heavy traffic and slow servers, should they change their networks, what information can they find out using these services?

I recommend to scoops to begin my installing Traffic monitoring and control, this will allow them to possibly diagnose the heavy traffic at specific times. I would also recommend putting Load balancing, Hardware diagnosis and Failure alerts, Asset managing, Security auditing, Address management, and Backup and restoration of data.

I’m making these recommendations to overall improve network security and efficiency as a whole. With these services Scoops can balance overall server load to help reduce traffic to specific parts of the network, determine if hardware is...
