BROWARD REGIONAL CRICKET PARK NOW THE SHOWPIECE OF NORTH AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN.

In a bid to be one of the host of the 2007 Zealand, but none could ever get it right.

In May of 2012 an ICC approved game between New Zealand and Sri Lanka was scheduled at the facility. There was a sellout crowd as cricket lovers came from near and far to be a part of history, as this was the first game of that caliber to be played there. As it featured Sri Lanka who were then World Champions.

To their disappointment the games lasted for a short while, as the players, instead of playing exciting cricket, had to be taking evasive actions due to the poor and deplorable condition of the pitch.

Since then the pitch was condemned by the International Cricket Council, (ICC.) Which means no other international cricket game could be held there until conditions improve. For a while no games were played there as players were reluctant to play, knowing the dangers of the pitch. The cricket pitch had now the “White Elephant” of Broward County and became underutilized for almost a year. No longer was it the great income earner for the county as was promised, and the sceptics began to doubt its viability.

Then an experienced, certified, professional Curator name Samuel Plummer came calling. After several attempts to convince Personnel at Broward Parks and Recreation that, with his over thirty years of experience, he could turn things around. Not fully convinced he was employed in 2011, only as a temporary worker, to prepare the cricket pitch only on match days.

With a pitch with faulty foundation structure, poor clay quality and his love and passion for the game Plummer started to rebuild a pitch that was nonexistent. Gradually games started coming back into the park, international teams started visiting again and a number of ICC tournaments are now being played there.
