Employee satisfaction is a measure of how happy employees are with their job and working environment. Keeping morale high among employees can be of tremendous benefit to the company. Happy employees will be more likely to produce more, lesser off days and stay loyal to the company. Job satisfaction is not the same as motivation although they have inter-link connection. Job design aims to enhance job satisfaction and performance which includes job rotation or job enrichment. Influences on satisfaction include management culture, employee involvement and advancement and other compensation.
Job satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job. Wesiss, 2002 argued job satisfaction is an attitude but pointed out that researchers should clearly distinguish the objects of cognitive evaluation which are affecting emotion, beliefs and behaviours. The job satisfaction interview conducted based on psychological and environmental factors. The interview was conducted face to face with voice recording to document the written interview. Consent was obtained prior the interview commence.
Ms Julie Lim the interviewee selected to do this interview who has been working with a multi-national company as Senior Executive for 5 years. The questions asked during the interview covers on motivations factors for staying in her company, what she loves about her job scope, relationship with her colleagues and peers and career progression and roadmap.
Hawthorne Study
Hawthorne study was one of biggest job satisfaction survey which was study from 1924 to 1933 by Elton Mayo of the Havard Business School finding out the effect of various conditions of employee’s productivity.
