Interview Skills Workshop

The interview is one of the most crucial components of any job search process because it gives both the applicant and the employer the opportunity for professional conversation. The applicant is expected to utilize the limited time to learn about employer’s needs and provide ways they can meet these needs. They should always prove to the employer their ability, skills, and background that can enable them fit in the organizations working environment successfully. This should be done through two important processes, the resume and the job interview. The resume is the key to the interview, the better it is presenting the applicant skills and abilities the better opportunity the applicant get to be invited to a job interview. When an employer invites a job applicant for an interview, they indicate the interest in bringing them on board; however, not all qualified job applicants satisfy the employer for lack of enough interview skills. While attending an interview skills workshop, I learned that most employers do not hire people based on merit alone but the person’s personality, positive outlook, confidence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. To please the employer on these qualities, every job applicant need to research, present and practice on potential interview questions effectively to market themselves.

Research about the organization and the job specifications gives the applicant a chance to learn about the company’s needs and culture before the interview. Someone who is interested in a position would find out about what the company does, the period of existence, if they have other branches and any other information about the company. One of the most common questions in interviews is “why do you want to work in our organization?” to answer this question well, they need to know about the organization.
