Jennifer's Case Study

Everyone faces stress during her life. The stress comes from within one's family situation as well as her career choice. Cause and effect will be addressed in Jennifer's case study showing her stress comes from her family and her career choice. Jennifer is experiencing unexplained physical problems because of the stress she is under.

Causes for Jennifer's stress

Jennifer has three sources of stress in her life: her career, her father's health, and her in-laws pressure. Jennifer met her husband four years previous to this study. Jennifer and her husband live in the county where Antonio works giving Jennifer an hour commute to her job. At work Jennifer takes pride in her organization and work. Jennifer strives to avoid disappointing her coworkers and maintain a strict schedule. Jennifer has become unsure of her effectiveness as an employee.

Two years prior to Jennifer's case study, Jennifer's mother passed away, leaving her to care for her ailing father. Jennifer knows her father would benefit through placement in a skilled nursing care facility, but he refuses to enter such a facility. Jennifer has tried to take care of her father bus has found his care adding to her level of stress.

Eight months prior to Jennifer's case study and four years of marriage to Antonio, Jennifer miscarried two months in the pregnancy. Jennifer and Antonio had been trying to start a family for a year. Antonio's parents are pressuring Jennifer to become pregnant again.

Self-concept and Self-esteem

The stress in Jennifer's life affects Jennifer's self-concept and self-esteem. Jennifer's self-concept as a daughter and mother are in question through the dilemma she has over her father and the pressure Antonio's parents are putting on her to give them a grandchild.
