Proofs for the Existence of God Essay

The question of Gods existence involves a long and controversial history contemplated for thousands of years. Defining the term God in and of itself is not an easy task because many different people have their own concept of what God means to them. God at its most simplified definition is the creator and the ruler of the universe; the Supreme Being and source of all moral authority. The existence of God has been an intriguing theme that occupied the minds of many philosophers throughout the ages.  Time and the advancement of modern science has called God and his very existence into question. Most conclude that it cannot be proven - one way or the other. The existence of God once was never denied. What was once certain, and unquestionably the ultimate truth is now the most questioned. In this essay, I will share five persuasive clues traditionally called proofs or arguments that point to the existence of God.  

When confronting such a problem as the existence of God, philosophers such as 

Saint Thomas Aquinas, Aristotle, Descartes, Immanuel Kant and John Locke all tried to prove and argue for the existence of God. The Quinque viæ (Latin, usually translated as "Five Ways" or "Five Proofs") are five logical arguments regarding the existence of God summarized by the 13th-century Catholic philosopher and theologian Saint Thomas Aquinas, in his book Summa Theologiae, this famous Third Article addresses the question of whether God exists, and in this article, Aquinas offers these simplified five proofs that take the form of scholastic arguments. (Layman) It is an argument that considers the universe as a whole and is outside the capacity of science, even though various aspects of science have some relevance to the question.
