1. The category of research would be Step 3, collecting the Information. The manufacturer must decide the observing some 150 sales rep would provide the data needed to improve the training of new reps which would fall under step 2, developing the research plan. The advantages of Step 3, collecting the Data would be that the data that is collected from the some 150 reps would be the idea hands-on observation that could assist the new reps on how to handle the physicians and support staff. The disadvantage would be very costly and will require a lot of time to observe the reps. More than one day could be spent on observing them while they follow the reps around visiting each physician and staff.

The next step would be Step 4, Analyze the Information. All the data collected from the observation would help determine the correct way to train the new reps. Once all the data has been analyzed and applied to the training, the final step would be to Present the Findings and implement the data collected.

2. I would position Maserati as a unique car that is in a class by itself. Maserati is not a common car that is available like the other competitors. Unlike other luxury cars, each car is not readily available since it is unique and not manufactured daily. Maserati is not a normal sports car but a very classy Italian sports car. This car has a different pricing since it does not manufacture 100 of the same model but produces a limited amount of models. The luxury Italian sports car has a different feel than its competitors.

3. Mr. Smith will primarily need to concentrate on the production of building lawn mowers. He will be competition with companies who are currently established and manufacturing lawn mowers for a while. He will have to be very efficient and the product line will need to be different than those that are already on the market.
