Gays and Lesbians in Belize

Traditionally in Belize, marriage is defined as the religious and legal union of a man and a woman who need to express love. Millions of years ago, when God was creating the earth and heaven, He decided to create a man, Adam. God later saw that he was alone so He helped him by creating a woman for Him, Eve, whom they later pro-created and expressed love. Despite this, our world has had a phenomenal change. Now, men are being attracted by other men, and vice-versa. Our country is one of many countries who haven’t accepted same sex marriages. Homosexual relationships are being common in Belize; however, these couples should never be permitted to get married because it is a sin, it can confuse the coming generations about gender roles and it can weaken family values.

Firstly, two persons of the same sex should never be permitted to marry because it is a sin . According to the New Jerusalem Bible in Genesis 1:22, “God blessed them, saying: Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth” (pg. 1). When God created the world, He blessed Adam and Eve and told them to procreate by having many children. Correspondingly, It is logical that two persons of the same sex cannot pro-create, so they should not marry. In fact, on the Amandala Newspaper it stated that: Homosexuality is specifically condemned in the Old Testament section of the Holy Bible, but the homosexuals have become so powerful in both the United Kingdom and the United States, the two nations which have probably most influenced the attitude and behavior of Belizeans, that they have created arguments, seemingly successfully, to neutralize the Old Testament, and they have made it so that homosexuality is not considered a sin in the mainstream Christianity of the U.K. and the U.S (2011).
