Hactivism

Hacking is defined as unauthorized access to a computer system, regardless of the motive, or misuse of legitimate access to a computer system. Computer fraud is the use of information and communication technology to manipulate others into providing money or identity information. There are several types of motives for hacking and fraud, two examples of this ecological, political, ethical activism known as hacktivism and another motive is simple for fun or pleasure. Hacktivism is hacking or infiltrating a computer system for a politically or socially motivated purpose. The “Hacktivist” uses the same techniques as a hacker but does it for political or social cause. Whether it be knocking out a political figures website or relaying a political message on a well-known website, hackers that use these as their causes are known as hacktivist.

There are hackers that hack for just fun and pleasure. Although it may just be for fun, they are usually getting something out of it. Whether it is breaking the tech system of large corporations or disrupting their neighbor’s internet service, these hackers that do it out of pleasure are still committing a crime. Much like any other crime that is done out of amusement, these types of hackers still commit crimes and fraud, so the actions they perform are still wrong.

Cell phone harassment is a cyber-crime and it is ethically wrong just like harassment in person would be. There are precautions that can be taken to prevent and avoid cell-phone harassment. One precaution is to simply hang up and contact the police or phone company. They can set a trap and have the number and information recorded to prevent and also figure out why they caller is harassing the victim. Keeping track of patterns of when they call and for how long can also be used as evidence for law enforcement. To actually prevent it from occurring could be difficult.
