I. Accuracy of data input is important. What method of data input would be best for each of the following situations and explain why:

1. Printed Questionnaire: I would use an optical data reader which is a special device that can also scan documents. The two categories of optical data readers are optical mark recognition (OMR) and optical character recognition (OCR). People completing OMR forms use pencils to fill in boxes on OMR which are also used in standardized tests, survey and census taking. (Stair & Reynolds, 2004).

2. Telephone Survey: You could use the telephone key pad to answer automated questions over the phone by pushing the numbered button that corresponds with the answer choices. If it is a person-to-person survey, you could use your voice to give your input.

3. Bank Checks: I would use a (MICR) device, which stands for magnetic ink character recognition. This type of device would be appropriate because data is placed on the bottom of a check or other form using a special magnetic ink. Date printed with this ink using a special character set can be read by both people and computers. (Stair & Reynolds, 2004).

4. Retail Tags: I believe, from reading the required materials, that there could be two answers to this question. My first choice is barcode scanner because it employs a laser scanner to read a bar-coded label. This system can track how much inventory is left and automatically place an order when an order falls below the reorder point. My second choice would be a (POS) device. A point-of-sale device is a terminal used in retail operations to enter sales information into the computer system. Many POS devices also use other types of input and output devices such as keyboards, bar code readers, printers and screens. (Stair & Reynolds, 2004).
