Imani All Mine

The novel titled Imani All Mine by Connie Porter, published in 1999, publisher: First Mariner Books Edition 2000, consisting of 218 pages total. I have read 212 pages out of the total pages of the book; the genre of this book is Fiction.

The story is about a fifteen year old girl named Tasha, who encountered many struggles and obstacles that prevented her from succeeding in her life. The setting takes place in the poor neighborhood of Buffalo, New York. Tasha lived with her mother, a single parent on welfare. Tasha was also a victim of rape; as a result she gets pregnant. Her life as a teenage mother was the hardest obstacle in her way. Growing up in mother-like conditions, living with the help of her mother and other family, it was difficult to raise her child.

The main character is Tasha, she is stubborn to whom she doesn’t approve and passive at times. Tasha plays as the teenage mother trying to survive, raising a child while sticking to her studies. She is strong in her heart and has a lot of love for herself and her baby. Eboni is another main character in the story. She is very friendly and helpful to others. She was the right hand of Tasha because that was her best friend. She was there for her in times of need. Tasha’s baby, whose name is Imani. She didn’t speak very much, but her role was to keep her mother strong and support her actions.

The moral of the story is that “no one is perfect and you’re wasting your time trying to be perfect,” says the author of the book, Connie Rose Porter. In the story, life didn’t go as planned for Tasha. Making a wise decision to stay in school, she was able to move forward. She demonstrated that having a child at a young age didn’t slow her down. Having a child at a very young age made her life difficult, but didn’t stop her from loving and caring...
