Three Styles of Policing

The question is, how would I combat this possible problem by using the three styles of policing, which consist of the "Watchman", "Legalistic", and "Service" styles, and which one do I believe is the best.

- First we look at the Watchman style. This style places an emphasis on maintaining order, but through informal methods. The watchman department is focused on resolving disputes, but not terribly focused on proactively preventing disputes. The department's overall goal is to keep the peace. The watchman style is popular in rural, small town, and blue-collar communities. This may be because these departments carry out many non-traditional police functions and don't have many outside resources available. The watchman style is also prevalent in communities with a diverse population. In a watchman style, officers gauge the seriousness of the offense based on its immediate consequences. This means that certain offenses are overlooked because the department is working toward the broader goal of maintaining overall public order.

- How I would use the watchman style of policing-- By using the watchman style of policing, I would increase "extra patrols" in areas of increased activities. By doing this, I am having officers show a presence to try and deter criminal activities before they start. I would have officers stop out on people who are committing lower level offenses, EXAMPLE- "Walking on the roadway with traffic". In Texas it is a "Misdemeanor C" offense to walk on the roadway "without a sidewalk" with the flow of traffic. You must walk against the flow of traffic because you can see oncoming traffic and it is safer. Especially at night time. By stopping out on people for offense's such as this and giving them warnings, it is showing the public that there is a police presence in the neighborhood, and may help to deter any future crimes. However, If I have officer's check out on people committing these offenses, I may have them disregard subjects in the city parks...
