. What do you think of Starbucks goal to recycle 4 billion cups sold annually in 2015? What challenges does it face in meeting that goal?

Starbucks and other strategic businesses in the cup value chain have a relationship with the Foodservice Packaging Institute to form the Paper Recovery Alliance (PRA), whose work will bring to scale solutions to the issue. The PRA promote the recovery and processing of single-use cups and other used paper foodservice packaging. Thus, starbucks idea of recycle 4 billion cups and sell annually becomes more competitive advantages and create more values according to quality and responsability. Also there are many challenges for Starbucks, some of them are:

• The use of recycled cups has local government policies and access to processors of plastic and paper mills

• Some communities already recycle their paper and plastic cups, but due to a traditional lack of demand for cup material by the recycling industry, many don’t have the infrastructure in place to handle collection, hauling and processing.

• The market may limit recycling in some stores because the owner is the one that controls the waste collection and decides whether or not they want to provide recycling
