Technology and Its Effect in the Workplace

The workplace and almost everything about it is changing very rapidly. As technology becomes more advanced, the workplace is continually growing with it. The workplace used to house employees with little to no technological experience but now, it is uncommon for an employee not to be proficient in computer literacy. Employees are expected to be able to work with this technology to hopefully increase productivity. Although technology is making our everyday lives and tasks easier, it is also putting workers out of jobs. Computers and technology can now do the work of regular employees not only faster and more efficiently, but also for a lot less money. For example, robots are even starting to learn how to do complex medical procedures which will eventually take some doctor’s out of hospitals. While this may seem like a good thing for employers, it bodes bad news for future job seekers. With technology eliminating jobs, it is going to face college students with troubles when seeking a job. Faced with the changing landscape of work, students will need to adjust their career plans and modify their assumptions about how best to succeed after college.

As technology is advancing and making job seeking more difficult employees need to develop skills that help distinguish themselves from competitors. Not only do employees now need to be able to communicate, but computer literacy is a must have skill in the workplace. No matter where you work chances are you will be working with technology regularly so it is important to have that skill.
