Introduction

The current windows XP systems that Hacked LLC are using are outdated and vulnerable for the company to use. Because Microsoft has stopped supporting older operating systems, security patches are no longer being made. With that being said any newer vulnerabilities to Windows XP will not be patched or fixed. So taking these facts about the hacked LLC’s Windows XP systems are outdated, the company should consider migration of Windows XP to a new updated Linux system. In the end it would be cost effective. Using Linux enterprise 11 is a solution for the new operating system. For this proposal we will go over hardware recommendations, migration plans, user logins, IP addressing, DNS, file sharing on the network, the use in setting up of encryption, setting up printing, group file sharing.

Hardware

Using SUSE Linux enterprise desktop software, the minimum hardware requirements are low. The hardware requirements are Intel Pentium for processor or higher, 512 MB of physical RAM or higher, 3 GB of available disk space, and a resolution of 1024x768 (Suse, n.d.). The current hardware for the Windows XP systems meets the minimum hardware requirements to run the new Lenox enterprise desktop software. To save costs, downtime, and maintenance it would be in the best recommendation to use currents hardware systems for the Windows XP computers for the new migration to Linux. Once each laptop or desktop dies one by one the company can slowly migrate and upgrade for a cheaper cost than overhauling for all new equipment/hardware. Lenox operating systems run on the same hardware as a Windows configuration would use.

Migration

There are many different reasons why this Linux operating system would be the best replacement. In one of the biggest ones is, it’s less time-consuming than other Lenox operating systems. Network administrators also need to make sure that the primary DNS server is also a domain...
