Cardiovascular disease can affect anyone at any time or age. Cardiovascular disease affects the blood flow and cardiac function directly, so when the flow becomes blocked or constricted a heart attack can occur (Zelman, M., Tompary, E., Raymond, J., Holdaway, P., & Mulvihill, M. (2010. p 117). Cardiovascular disease affects both men and women though the symptoms can vary. Heart disease can be prevented with early intervention and education. Being aware of the symptoms, prevention, and causes of cardiovascular disease can lower the chance of developing heart disease.
Symptoms of Cardiovascular Disease
There are five primary symptoms that are associated with cardiovascular disease; pain located in the jaw, neck or back, the feeling of weakness or being light-headed, chest pain, shortness of breath and pain based on the arm or shoulder area ("Heart Attack Signs and Symptoms", 2015). Women tend to ignore many of the pains associated with cardiovascular disease, thinking that it could be indigestion or working too hard, so they will not seek professional help.
Management of Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease can be managed through a lifestyle change, an understanding of family history, and age. Seeking the advice of a cardiologist and having tests performed to see how bad the heart might be damaged will aid in the proper management style that is needed.
Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease
Starting at a young age, developing healthy lifestyle habits, will all assist in preventing cardiovascular disease. Eating healthy, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and eliminating lot of animal fat, and eating good fats, like avocado, will aid in more youthful heart. Exercising, at least, thirty minutes a day, three days a week, promotes a strong, healthy heart. Eliminating or not never smoking aids in a healthy heart. However, sometimes heart disease is hereditary, meaning it is passed down through the family.
