Argument Paper

Conference draft

Before you hand in your conference draft, please check it for the following

1. Take a highlighter and highlight your thesis statement

2. Make sure your argument contains the following parts and follows one of the formats given to you on the handout titled Organization of Argument

Introduction

Exposition

Rebuttal paragraph

Conclusion

IMPORTANT * You must identify the format you have chosen and indicate each of these sections by writing them in the margin (glossing)*

3.Check that each paragraph is at least 5-7 sentences in length.

4. Using MLA citation, you must have your sources correctly documented both in the text and on the works cited page.

5. On the back of your draft, indicate 3-5 questions and concerns you would like to address at the conference.

Argument Paper

COMPLETING THE ARGUMENT PAPER

1. Make an appointment with the writing center.

Make a list of at least 5 questions that you have concerning your paper and discuss your questions with the writing assistant.

2. On the day of writing groups, bring 2 copies of your work to hand out to your peers.

We will be critiquing one copy in class and one copy will be evaluated as a homework assignment.

3. Please include the following in your portfolio (in this order):

1. Final draft with Annotated Bibliography stapled to the back of the Works Cited page

2. Grading sheet

3. 2 peer drafts complete with their comments

4. Writing Center draft with blue sheet and your questions stapled to the front

5. Conference reports (stapled together)

A. Conference report

B. Writing group report (½ page) and Writing Center report (½ page)

6. Introduction with peer comments stapled to it

7. Notebook entries stapled in order (1-8)
