In Israel there have been many types of different political parties that have run for office since 1948. There was up to 200 of those different types of political parties that ran got a few opportunities to make a movement in becoming elected officials of the Israeli government. Most of these political parties were very short lived after 1948. They went from 200 parties to around 110 different types of parties. Currently there are 10 political parties that are in office at the moment. The Israeli government there is nine parts to be aware of. There is the Electoral System, The Legislative Branch (Knesset) also know as the Israeli Parliament, Basic Laws, Executive Branch, The Presidency, Local Government, The Judiciary, State Control, and Freedom of the Press. When you think of the American Government, and how it is broke down, you are like holy cow! Why are there so many branches in the Israeli government? We are use to having just a legislative, executive, and a judicial branch in our government. Let’s go into to detail, on what some of these branches of the Israel government comprises of. Starting with the Electoral System. The Electoral System is comprised of. It’s very general, equal, and secretive. It’s held one every four years (just like US elections) on the national level, and it is held once every five years on the municipal level. “Israel has a system of proportional representation, and the whole state is considered a single constituency.” (Jewish Virtual Library) All the party’s present a list of candidates, and tallying of the number of candidates into the House of Representatives is proportional to a certain percent that it receives. Any citizen that is 18 years of age, and their name appears on the list of voters may vote. This system is sounding really familiar to voter registration in American. This does not seem too far off.
