Financial compensation should be given to organ donors
Introduction
Since the beginning of organ transplantation, doctors have continued to perform and perfect this procedure. Organ transplant have been the course of action for undeveloped or deteriorating organs. As doctors and scientist have discovered, successful transplantation can only be achieved if both donor and recipient are a perfect match. Since organ transplant can only be successful if they are a perfect match, the probability for a match has become a serious challenge. For those who are unfortunate enough to be born with a defective organ or have an organ that have been affected with detrimental deceases not have the challenges of the waiting list, but they also have the challenge of becoming a match once their number is up. This has increasingly problematic for those in need.
Background information
“Organ donation is the process of giving an organ or a part of an organ for the purpose of transplantation into another person.” [ (Organ Donation) ] To become an organ donor, one must be listed as an organ donor prior to the catastrophic event.
Before an organ donation can take place, circumstantial events must take place. The donor must die from a fatal brain injury and only until after all efforts to save their life have been exhausted. The organ must also have blood and oxygen still flowing through the organ until just before the extraction. Moreover, a brain stem activity must be tested and confirmed unresponsive before the donation can proceed [ (Organ Donation) ].
My position
Financial compensation should be given as an incentive for organ donation. While the numbers of people on the waiting list have drastically increased in the last decades, the numbers of donors have yet to follow. Given that the percentile of poverty in the United States is also an issue, it is no...
