1. What positive and negative managerial characteristics does Jamika possess?
Jamika’s positive characteristics are that she has good work relationships, personal integrity, interpersonal skills, and ability to lead and motivate others. Her negative characteristics are ineffective communication skills and practices, poor reactionary behavior, and failure to clarify performance expectations.
2. How do these traits help or hinder her potential to get the top position at the Riverwood Mall salon?
Her positive characteristics help to get her to top position because people want to work for her and these are seen as positive to the corporation to see her as a potential for promotion. Her negative characteristics hinder her in that she lets her employees get away with certain things and she needs to control her behavior.
3. How do you think Jamika should have handled each of the incidents with Marianne? Holly and Carol Jean? Victoria?
With Marianne she needs to slow down and listen to what Marianne is saying. She should have calmly instructed her on what she needed to do, not take her frustration out on her. With Holly and Carol Jean, they shouldn’t have been allowed to get away with some of the inappropriate behavior before, which wouldn’t have led to them both calling in at the same time. The situation with Victoria was handled well in the beginning. It’s ok to let your assistant handle things if you have duties to tend to. Although, she shouldn’t have agreed to Victoria handled it then change her mind and go out of the office with the attitude she had. That will only cause more conflict and tension.
