Euthanasia Essay
Euthanasia is a big topic of conversation in the U.S. because the state of Oregon had
recently passed a law saying that anyone that wanted to die via lethal injection with probable
cause could. Being able to make your own choices in America is part of the first amendment so I
feel that all American citizens should be able to exercise their rights and make their own life
choices. The law in New Jersey should be passed because it is unconstitutional not to allow
someone to commit suicide if they so choose. Dr. Kevorkian was the doctor who created the
euthanizing drug and he was put in jail for lethally injecting a terminally ill patient. Patients
should be able to make the choice whether to euthanize themselves or to tough out the illness
that has taken their body. No punishment should have been issued unless the doctor injects it
without permission.
Primarily, New Jersey should pass the Death with Dignity law so that residents of New
Jersey are allowed to be euthanized if they so choose. The only patients that receive the dosage
are patients with terminal illnesses so if they want to take the drug to end the suffering they
should be allowed. Patients suffering from a terminal disease should have the option to end it all
because if they are tired of suffering and taking different drugs to help with the pain, then they
should have the option to end their own life. If other states have passed this law, there must be
probable cause for creating such a law and passing it. This law went through a long process
through the courts and it should not even be contested because of the first amendment of the U.S.
Constitution.
