A SCORED DISCUSSION: THE LEGACY OF NEW DEAL TODAY

QUESTIONS:

1. Do you agree with the measures FDR took to combat the unemployment problem during 1930s, even if it meant the use of deficit spending? Support your view.

I believe that FDR did try to take control of the unemployment rate and try and improve the country. He created many acts including the Bank Relief Act which shut down all banks to insure customers that banks were okay will remain okay. This Act was funded with 500 million dollars to provide direct relief for the needy.

2. Do you believe it is the role of the Federal government to provide for the well-being and welfare of its citizens? Support your view.

I feel that the government is responsible in providing a healthy place for its citizens. However, at the end of the day the government should be responsible for the welfare of its citizens. The citizens are what make up the United States and in order to keep the USA together, you have to make sure first that the people are okay. Sometimes, people really do need help and cant do it on their own and many times it wont be the persons fault why they are living on the street. Those people should be the ones the government helps out.

3. One of the legacies established by the New Deal was government-funded programs in the arts and sciences such as the National Endowment for the Arts, etc. Do you believe it’s the government’s role to fund endeavors in the arts and sciences? Support your view.

I feel that it is the governments obligation to help fund the arts and sciences because it still is someones career and life path. The people that choose this path still need to make money off of it to support there family so without support from the government they may live in poverty.

4. The Affordable HealthCare Act (2010) is sometimes termed “Obamacare”. Do you agree with this act that requires all American adults to purchase healthcare insurance?
