“Everybody on earth is dead in a year.” This is the alarming problem that the film, The Core focused on. This problem arose due to the collapse of the electromagnetic field, an invisible field of energy made up of electricity and magnetism, which protects and shields the earth from cosmic radiation and solar winds, respectively. If this field completely deteriorates, different calamities will occur and every electronic gadget will be fried. In simpler words, the root cause of this problem is the halting of the earth’s core movement.

To address this problem, groups of experts were gathered to solve the problem within a limited time of three months. With the mission that is yet to commence, the evident question of the means to get to the core of the earth that is 2000 miles down and a thousand miles thick was lingering. The superheated hyper-fluid of molten iron and nickel at 90˚ Fahrenheit was another obstacle to be encountered in the deeper parts of the earth’s layers. A ship that could withstand the different conditions of each earth layer and could deliver explosives to restart the core had to be built. After the ship had been constructed, a team of six people were gathered to join the mission to help save the planet. Two geophysicists, Doctors Josh Keyes and Conrad Zimsky were to be accompanied by a weapon specialist, Dr. Serge Leveque, and Dr. Brazzelton, the builder of the ship. To control the ship, Commander Bob Iverson and Major Rebecca Childs were included in the team.

It was during the launching of the ship that symbolized the beginning of the mission, did I feel the climactic emotions. I was literally holding my breath and was at the edge of my seat from then on as I watched because it was the beginning of the dangerous endeavors the characters would experience. Initially, the ship went smoothly through the earth’s crust that was 30 miles thick and was composed of rocks. The major problems occurred when the ship reached the mantle and core...
