PERSONAL STATEMENT

"A good educational background is essential for the formation of the human personality." These words I do not recall where exactly I first came across have been my beacon as I continue to pursue my lifelong goals and passions in the area of Biomedicine. Having acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, I seek to further my academic training and become a better skilled biomedical researcher. I seek to achieve this by pursuing a research Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences at Chester University, UK with the aid of the Commonwealth shared Scholarship.

While growing up, my interest and desire was to work as a biomedical scientist and my understanding of how biomedical research is helping to advance healthcare delivery has further strengthened my resolve to pursue a career in biomedical research. As an intern at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital I saw the need for the services of skilled medical scientist to aid accurate diagnosis and formulation of treatment regimes. Unfortunately, Nigeria has an under-developed biomedical research; as a result, many people suffer unnecessarily due to inaccurate diagnosis and/or treatment plan. Also, at the time of my National Youth service I was a volunteer peer-educator and trainer and I served to educate adolescents about the menace of many preventable diseases such as HIV/AIDS and how to maintain sound reproductive health. The trainings and the experience I had during this period also opened me up to the vast opportunities and benefits in the field of biomedical research training.

With my academic background in biochemistry, an additional training in biomedical science among other things will qualify me to practise and work as a professional biomedical scientist which is my desired career goal.
