What is a museum?

A Museum is a building, place or institution devoted to the acquisition, conservation, study, exhibition and educational interpretation of objects having scientific, historical or artistic value. The word Museum is derived from the Latin muses, meaning ‘a source of inspiration’, or ‘to be absorbed in one’s thoughts’. Museums collect and care for objects of scientific, artistic or historical importance and make them available for public viewing – through exhibits that may be part of the permanent collection or through temporary exhibits. It is the role of the 3.1 curator to look after the objects and explain their history to visitors (“What is a Museum?,” n.d.). The cultural history can be represented in a variety of ways. In order to give the feel of “bring the past to life” to the visitors, they enable the visitor to feel , touch, see, hear, experience and smell the past. Nowadays, most of the museums offer selection of programme of events for different groups: families, students, corporate event etc.

Why we visit to a museum?

Museums are a great source to learn about the past and importance of history cannot be over-emphasized. History teaches us various lessons and guides us about our present even help us making predictions about future. Theodore Roosevelt stressed on the importance of history as:

"I believe that the more you know about the past, the better you are prepared for future." Museums vary in genres and we can be an astronaut off to...
