In a paragraph or two, describe your experience performing Lab 1: Introduction to Science. Then answer the laboratory questions for Lab 1.

For Lab 1, the experiment itself was straightforward. For it being an introductory lab, I was not expecting anything too complex. Using the materials provided in the kit as well as the lab manual, I carried out the experiment over the course of four days. After presoaking the pinto beans, I placed the respective bags into their selected environment and left them undisturbed to react to their environments. Data interpretation was easy, simply remove and unwrap the beans and see how many had sprouted.

Questions

1. What patterns do you observe based on the information in Table 4? As the amount of dissolved oxygen increases, the number of fish also increases. However, after a certain amount of dissolved oxygen is obtained and then exceeded, the number of fish observed starts to decrease again.

2. Develop a hypothesis relating to the amount of dissolved oxygen measured in the water sample and the number of fish observed in the body of water. As the amount of dissolved oxygen increases, the number of fish observed increases.

3. What would your experimental approach be to test this hypothesis? Have a tank rigged to vary the amount of dissolved oxygen.

4. What would be the independent and dependent variables? Independent-amount of dissolved oxygen in water. Dependent-number of observable fish

5. What would be your control? A tank with a constant, stable amount of dissolved oxygen.

6. What type of graph would be appropriate for this data set? Why? Line graph, there is a direct relationship and dependence between the variables.

7. Graph the data from Table 4: Water Quality vs. Fish Population (found at the beginning of this exercise).

8. Interpret the data from the graph made in Question 7. As the amount of dissolved oxygen increases, the number of fish...
