Wal-Mart is the largest company in the world with more than $405 billion dollars of gross sales, about 50% more than its five closest competitors (such as Target and Sears). It has over 8,000 stores worldwide with 54% of them found in the United States. (Walmart Corporation, 2010). Yet, despite its strong position in the market, Wal-Mart faced a stagnant share price and decreasing sales in its stores in the United States. (Kaminis, 2010)
The purpose of this paper is to study the strengths and weaknesses of Wal-Mart, the threats in the current market that might negatively affect the company and the opportunities it can take up in the near future.
