Artistic Genius Leonardo da Vinci
When this assignment was introduced the class, I briefly reviewed the list of names considered to be an artistic genius in our assignment instructions and immediately, without reservation selected Leonardo da Vinci as the person that I would write about. The reason for my selection is due to the large paintings of the last supper that I viewed growing-up in most homes I visited either in the living or dining rooms. Also present in many homes were the paintings of the Mona Lisa. This is the art work that left an impression from childhood to adulthood.
Also, there is a current television series that airs on Stars called the Da Vinci’s Demons that follows the “untold” story of Leonardo da Vinci genius during his early years in Renaissance Florence, as a 25 year old artist, inventor, swordsman dreamer and idealist, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time as he beings to not only see the future, but invent it. It is truly remarkable that 500 years after his death, that to this day he has a weekly television going into its third season dedicated to him because he was a superhuman genius.
A synopsis of Leonardo’s life reveals that he was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy. As you might recognized the city in which he was born also became his last name. His father was an attorney and notary, and his mother was a peasant who never were married. His mother, Caterina, married another man while he was young and started a new family, around age 5, he began living on an estate that belonged to the family of his father, Ser Peiro, which indicates that he was mainly raised by his father and his family members (history.com).
