Corrections
Developments and new philosophies of corrections are being created due to the results of past, current, and future trends. There are many concerns and issues within corrections, but the primary concern is the debate of prison overcrowding and its decreasing budget. The problem of overcrowding must be addressed, or it will affect the future operations and the effectiveness of corrections in the future. Many programs are being considered by correctional administrators, legislators and local activist that will help with addressing the issue of prison overcrowding and how it affects current and future trends. Reduction of the budget is a major problem for corrections and correction administrators. When state legislators decided to have budget cuts. It affects the correctional system, law enforcement organizations and the court system. In my paper i will discuss past, current and future trends in corrections and the criminal justice system. Overcrowding of prisons are also a problem and legislatures are looking at alternate correction methods to reduce the cost of dealing with the increasing prison population. Alternative correction is a method of allowing offenders to remain in their respective community and work. Offenders will also have a chance to continue to have family ties. Inmates that are integrated back into society is vital for people in society.
The "get tough" approach was highly favored by society and the politicians in the past when it came to putting criminal behind bars. It was thought that individual treatment programs would not help to recidivism reduction. Also, it was thought that it would keep crime at an all-time low and that being tough on criminals would protect the community.
