Nursing Home Laws: Making Life Enjoyable

The research regarding the laws of nursing homes caught my attention, because of the passion that I have for the geriatric and elderly people. This also impacts me personally due to the fact my Boss’s mother currently resides in a long-term facility. Poor quality care has been an enduring feature on many of the 16.500 residential nursing facilities that provide Care to 1.6 million people in the united states. There is a need for the laws to be changed due to the many things prohibiting the facility. Due to all the federal regulations required, each nursing home is still not to standards including reaching their own goals. With that being said, there is still a long road to go to show improvement regarding the living and physical conditions.

Thesis Statement History and Overview

The regulations for the nursing homes carry a lot of history and expectations overall making sure the conditions meet the federal as well as the local regulation can cause a big windfall. After nearly 30 years, the Obama administration wants to modernize the laws nursing homes must follow to be able to receive Medicaid and Medicare payments (Jaffe, S. 2015). The proposed regulations include measures to better ensure that patients or their families are involved in the care planning. Revised rules would also promote more individualized care and help make nursing homes feel more like home for the residents. The existing regulations do not even conceive of electronic communication the way they exist today said Dr. Shari Ling, Medicare’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer. (Par.4) The proposal regulations include measures to better ensure that patients or their family are involved in the care planning.
