‘You’re acting how they want you to now,” he says, “but what happens when your Abnegation-wired brain tells you to do something else, something they don’t want?’

Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior is one of many important character in the world that Veronica Roth created with Divergent. Even though she was born in Abnegation, the faction for the selfless, Tris eventually transfers into Dauntless, and must face the fact that she is Divergent, that she doesn’t fit into just one personality type. When she arrives in her new faction, she decides to change her name, using Tris as a nickname for Beatrice, as she hopes for a fresh start in a new faction. But she soon realizes that this feat might not be so easy to come by, as her Abnegation traits shine through in the Dauntless compound and that she can’t get rid of them as easily as she thinks.
