Whistleblowers

Whistleblowers are people that report illegal behavior or activities to the government or legal parties that can stop the activities. A famous whistleblower is Keith A. Schooley a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch. Keith Schooley noticed and turned in the Oklahoma and Texas offices for fraud and corruption that they were preforming. Keith Schooley was upholding his personal ethics by reporting the fraud and corruption that were being ran through Merrill Lynch’s offices. Keith Schooley got fired from Merrill Lynch and then sued them for their actions. Merrill Lynch has since merged with the Bank of America to financial stabilize themselves.

A whistle blower needs to have to be brave and have strong morals and ethical values to speak out against their company. The whistleblowers have to be prepared to lose their jobs and to have to go through many hours of questioning and court appearances to help get the case through trial. Whistleblowers are strong because there are times when becoming a whistleblower could cause a person’s family to be threatened or even attacked to get back at the whistleblower and the whistleblower could end up having to be in protective custody to keep them safe from danger. Whistleblowers are tough and I hope that if I ever have to turn in my company that I will have the strength to do so. Being placed in a passion that people feel that they have to become whistleblowers is wrong also because people should be able to go to work and not feel that they could potentially have to go against the company that they work for since the company is preforming illegal activities.

Whistleblowers, like Keith Schooley, risk everything to turn in their companies and have through so much to do the right thing. Morals and ethical values mush be the important thing for whistleblowers because they really do not get anything except most likely a lost job. When they lose their jobs they get told it is for not being a team player and that is a load...
