In the land of free trade the public does not view all industries as equal. Do you believe that is ethical? Do you believe that some industries are unfairly targeted? Should it be consumers’ choice to partake in products that are not healthy for them, or do those companies have an ethical obligation to protect people?

We tend to be very critical and most of the time we view companies by the way they conduct business, if their actions are immoral there is a big chance that they are unethical. I do believe that certain industries are targeted unfairly. I am convinced that we as consumers have an obligation to be aware of what we put in our bodies, not the government or the industries. A good example is cigarettes, if I decide to smoke regardless of how many studies show that smoke is not good for you, still my choice to either stop or keep smoking. I am sure that there are companies out there that think about the consumer before their wealth; however, as a good capitalist country the industries are in business because of the money.

1. Become an advocate for either the consumer or the industry. Prepare an argument explaining the major reasons why you support either the consumer or the industry.

One company that I believe that is unfairly targeted is McDonalds, because, we as a society tend to blame others for our lack of judgment. We the parents are to blame for our children obesity, as we tend to make unhealthy choices. We have stopped cooking healthy meals at home, and we have allowed our children to remain sedentary for an extended period of time. In addition, McDonalds has made many changes to their menu and now parents have the choice to ask for apples instead of fries and milk or water instead of soda. Yet, many parents tend to make the wrong choices. If we stop blaming others for our irresponsibility, we would not have this problem.
