Computer Evolution

Difference Engines, Machines, Computers or an Analytical Engine. Whatever the name suggest, these devices were created to serve one purpose and that’s to make life easier for us. The name computers as it is more modernly know, was given because of the devices ability to compute things and give answers. Some people are not exactly clear on what a computer really is, it is my task therefore to explain to you what a computer is and how it has evolved. A computer is known as an electronic device, which executes software programmers with astonishing speed and accuracy. A computer processes input through input devices, stores data on its storage unit and outputs information on output devices.

The question of who created the computer is not a simple one to answer, for many inventors such as engineers, mathematicians, scientists, have contributed to the history of computers. Many argue that the first computer that was created was “the Difference Engine” which was conceived in 1786 by J.H Muller, still others would say that the Abacus (a frame with beads sliding on wires) is the first computer invented. Computers were created to do the very tiresome computations of everyday life and business. A few computers that left a great mark in history are the Z1 Computer which was created by Robert Zuse in 1936 to help him with lengthy engineering calculations. The Transistor was invented by John Barden, Walter Brattain and William Shokley, the Transistor is not a computer but is an influential invention that changed the course of history for computers. The transistor is a device composed of semi-conductor material that can both conduct and insulate. In 1964 the computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart, who changed the way computers worked from specialized machinery that only trained scientist could use, to a user friendly tool that almost anyone can use. The ARPAnet protected the flow of information between military installations by...
