Peach as a Chinese Icon

An icon for a country is significant, it can manifest a unique culture. For China, peach has the symbols of immortality, love and exorcism. Therefore, peach is one of the Chinese cultural icons because it represents different auspicious symbols through its historical reason.

Peach is deciduous tree which grown in Northwest China, its fruit skin is fuzzy in pink color with white meat and one large middle seed inside. Everyone falls in love with their fruit because it tastes sweet, juicy, delicious. Their fruit contains multiple nutrition that is benefit for health (Juliana Baldec, 2014). Especially, it is full of Vitamin C which has anti-oxidation impact and prevent harmful agents go into our bodies. Consequently, peach plays a significant role in China for multiple reasons.

The peach is the Chinese icon for historical reason. More details, many scholars believe peach originated in China. According to the explore, archaeologist found the oldest peach pits which is considered more than two and a half million years (Discovery News, 2015). Clearly, the evidence for this discovery can prove the assumption of the scholars, and helps them to confirm peach originated in China. Therefore, peach is icon to China through historical reason because it existed in China for a long time, its has impressive position. Additionally, peach represents longevity in tradition history. In particular, peach always connected with longevity in the Chinese historical literature. According to Desmond R. Layne and Daniele Bassi (2008), who are credible editors of the book who summarize the knowledge of peaches, express “The peach is a symbol of immortality in Taoist mythology.
