Regional and Country Analysis

The regional alliances and economic integration have little or no economic integration between India and other South Asian countries and India has a goal to improve this as of 2009.

India has more trade with Sub-Saharan Africa (11%) than it does with its own nearest neighbors Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Burma (6%). Indias’ biggest trading partner at this time is East Asia at 52%. India has made overtures to several neighbors to help improve trade, including a NAFTA-like agreement with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.

The physical environment and Indias’ affect on trade has a maritime climate due to having 3 oceans surrounding it. It is north of the equator so the southern part of the country is warmer than the north. The political stability is moderate and in the country had 4 prime ministers in the last 10 years. Political instability does not necessarily mean that the country is economically unstable. India has made overtures to several neighbors to help improve trade, including a NAFTA-like agreement with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.

India is a parliamentary democracy and has been since its independence from Britain.

There are no current revolutionary movements however, there are some terrorist attacks in the northeast and that area should be avoided. Bill Clintons visit to India in 2000 greatly improved relations between the US and India. India is the 2nd fastest growing economy in the world

Main economic activity in India is still agriculture and agriculture related activities. The many tariffs imposed by the Indian government could be problematic
