The Importance of Being on Time

The main reason for this essay is because I did not follow the proper orders and was not at the correct place of duty for accountability. Regardless of my reasons for not showing up, there is no excuse big enough to not make it on time for formation. The first step I need to put into action is making sure I am always accounted for which in turn means I am on time for place of duty, if not fifteen minutes prior. This is a simple task that is easy, and painless to follow through on, and it will be accomplished.

Being on time is a basic Soldiers task. We learned at a very low rank that you need to be at the right place, at the right time, in the correct uniform. Absolutely no Soldier can go wrong when they follow those simple tasks. The US Army depends on its Soldiers which would include all enlisted, warrant officers and commissioned officers to abide by these rules, as well as follow them themselves.

Dictionary.com defines accountability as, the state of being accountable; liability to be called on to render an account. A Solider must always remain accountable whether he is part of a formation, or a place of duty where he was told to be at. Being accounted for means that the people you are responsible to, and for, know where you are, and can rely on you to be there at the designated time you have been given. This is important because someone who is accountable can be relied upon by their subordinates and superiors to get the job done no matter the time or place. Showing that you are accountable for the work that your Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) assigns you makes you an important member of the section, increasing your chances of getting recognized for schools, promotion, etc.

Part of being on time in the military is to be there at least 15 minutes prior to the subscribed time given just in case something happens and you need to make an adjustment to the mission. Every leader would like to be able to rely on their Soldiers as...
