The police systems in Japan and the United States are known to be much different. Not only is Japan’s crime rate lower, but they were also known for being in an economic despair [in the 1990’s]. Having to look to the to the US to possibly buy out some of the most prestigious properties that were in the US, including the Rockefeller Center in New York, New York. But the economic disparity is not what was making the city come together and remain safe. Japan has recently become more economically inclined, yet they still have a very low crime rate. According to NationMaster, the crime rate has increased in the past 3 years, but is still only ranked 16th when the United States is ranked 30th which shows that we have 4 times more crime occurring than Japan does. With Japan’s low crime rate comes hard work- they aren’t just handed success year after year, they have to maintain the morals and values that they had the year prior. Because Japan is a smaller country than United States without discrimination and racial prejudice, they are able to have relatively the same goals as one another and that gives United States a slight disadvantage.

Along with having such a low crime rate, Japan is also known for not having an overload of graffiti or gang bangers- people can actually walk around at the dark of night and feel comfortable and safe, moving freely around streets, parks, and ally ways without any apprehension. This is almost unheard of in the United States. Being born and raised in Los Angeles, California, you are exposed to an almost constant unsafe environment. Any time past dark (8 PM) it was known that it was not safe to be walking around neighborhoods, especially if you were walking alone. No person should ever feel like they are unsafe in their own neighborhood but unfortunately that’s how it is in many parts of the world.
