Q.5 LEARNING OUTCOMES OF SECURITY GUARD TRAINING

Based on Kurt Kraiger’s multidimensional classification scheme, the 40-hour security guard training for one week will result in various cognitive, skill-based and affective learning outcomes. Cognitive outcomes will be derived from the knowledge focusing on the facts, rules, procedures and principles pertaining to the role of security guards. For instance, the knowledge of relevant legislations such as the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, Trespass to Property Act or laws highlighting the use of force and power to arrest can all be tied into the cognitive outcomes of the security guard training because they focus on outlining the factual information regarding certain rules and regulations which the security guards have to abide by. Also, the procedure of using the equipment such a batons and handcuffs can also be classified under cognitive learning outcomes since a procedure is involved in learning the appropriate way of using such equipment. Skill-based outcomes are a result of training that involves the development of various skills required on-the-job. For example, after attending the training program, the security guards will be expected to gain the theoretical and practical knowledge of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and providing First Aid which will also enhance their cognitive as well as their motor skills. Some other learning outcomes include the ability to build communication and public relation skills which will allow the security guards to verbally report incidents, write detailed daily reports, take notes and communicate in an effective manner overall. The training program will also include diversity training which will result in attitudinal change, in other words, an affective outcome as classified by Kraiger et al. which will allow the security guards to avoid making stereotypical judgments based on race, color or religion and will make them more sensitive of their...
