OUTLINE

I. When learning about ourselves we sometimes do not realize that there is more to our development then just being born, living our lives and dying. I sometimes asked myself why are we all so different but certainly unique. In this paper I am going to discuss the three most prominent theories and their contributions to the study and application of child development from infancy through adulthood.

A. There are three main developmental theories that enhance the qualities of our lives whether if it is because of our environment, our culture or inherited. These are the Domains of development which consist of Physical Development, Cognitive Development and Psychosocial Development.

II. Physical Development Theory explains the cycles in which our bodies experience physically throughout life. These cycles start with brain development then goes into Infant physical brain development on in to brain development in puberty during adolescence and then on into the last cycle in brain development in adulthood.

A. Brain Development at conception.

1. Brain development starts at birth.

B. Infant Brain Development

1. Infant development begins as a child’s muscles allow them to accomplish different movements.

C. Brain development in Puberty is the start of the adolescent signs of maturing.

1. Puberty starts in males at the age of 14.

2. Puberty starts in females at the age of 12.

D. Brain development in Adulthood is the final stage of physical development.

1. In Adulthood the brain is continuously remodeling itself.

III. Cognitive Development according to Piagent is a comprehensive theory about the nature and development of human intelligence.
