Describe an ethical framework applies to the use of counselling skills

Confidentially should be based on informed consent, clients should fully understand the limits of confidentially before entering a therapeutic relationship.

Organisations who offer counselling have different policies on confidentiality, i.e. some drug treatment centres ask counsellors to break confidentiality if the client discloses illicit drug use or any issues from drug trafficking act children’s act, if the counsellor thinks you are at risk of giving or receiving serious harm, if I am required by a up court of law.

Always be clear of both the organisations and the ethical body’s code of ethics before offering services

Professionals who work with others have a personal responsibility to be committed to awareness of their own life issues, without a high level of self- awareness, counsellors are in greater danger of obstructing the process of their clients by shifting the focus of therapy from meeting the client’s needs to meeting their needs.

To a degree to which we are unaware of our needs and personal dynamics we will probably –use our work primarily to satisfy our own unmet needs, steer clients away from exploring conflicts that we ourselves are unwillingly to acknowledge. The critical point is not whether you happen to be struggling with personal questions, but how you are struggling with them

Transference is the process in which a client projects onto the therapist feelings or attitudes they have forward significant people in their lives, transference cannot explain every feeling clients express with or toward the therapist

Conterference any projection by a therapist that can potentially get in the way of helping the client, examples beining over protective of the client, treating client in benign ways to avoid anger, needing constant reinforcement and approval, sexual or romantic feelings towards client, the falling practises foster it, therapists who offer quick solutions to a...
