1. What is a work breakdown structure? What is a responsibility assignment matrix? How are they related?

A work breakdown structure is a key project deliverable that organizes the team's work into manageable sections. A deliverable oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team. The Structure divides the items into work items, with the lowest item on each branch called the work package. The assignment matrix is a method used to display, the individuals responsible for accomplishing the work items within the WBS. The work items and work packages are what relate the WBS and the assignment matrix.

2. What is an activity? Does it always require human effort? Refer to Figure 4.1. Provide a detailed list of activities needed to accomplish work package 3.3. Do the same for work package 4.2.

An activity is something that is done as work or for a particular purpose and consumes time. An. activity does not always require human effort.
