Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction

Wattpad is a place to discover and share stories: a social platform that connects people through words. It is a community that spans borders, interests, and languages. With Wattpad, anyone can read or write a story through any device such as phone, tablet, or computer.

Reading Wattpad stories become a trend for the younger generation it started from a well-received Wattpad entry among the readers; its popularity started to rise as the movie adaptation was realized, thus a bigger following have started to trend as more and more of these well-loved stories started being published locally.

At some point of a person’s life one would find himself/herself holding a book or any reading material telling a story such as Wattpad due to is accessibility in mobile phones or tablets, they will find themselves engrossed and enjoying the reading. They will find themselves rooting for the story’s protagonist, feeling emotions that one would feel when faced with the same trial a protagonist is being subjected to, or they would feel the same kind of hurt when a favorite supporting character betrays the hero; or they find themselves shedding a tear or two when the story finally revealed that the antagonist of the story is actually a tragic hero ready to sacrifice themselves for the hero for some well-meaning motive.

Nowadays a lot of students raging from adolescents to young adult and even higher can be found reading a story from Wattpad avidly from their smartphones or from their tablets and even from published stories from the application turned book. Most would have friends that they would have the same interest as they and would most likely have the same story being read from their gadgets, sharing their own thought s about their favorite character to how much they wish that the “antagonist” would just leave the poor protagonist alone, to how they think the story should have or shouldn’t have ended.
