In Lewis Thomas’s essay, “The Iks,” Lewis states that the Iks individually could be compared to that of one group or even that of a nation. He makes that argument based on the Iks’ behavior towards one another, which he shows us through comparisons. Unfortunately, the comparisons Lewis makes are not about our societies and the Iks’ good qualities, but some of the worst qualities in both. Lewis goes on showing the readers that when the Iks are grouped up together, their worst qualities are more apparent because we could see the actions one Ik brings upon another; acts such as: defecating on each other’s doorsteps, laughing at their neighbors misfortunes, and many other such acts that show their detestable behaviors. Lewis then states those detestable behaviors of the Iks are the same for a group as whole.

In accordance to Lewis Thomas’ argument, I would have to fully agree with his reasoning. I believe human nature potentially harbors a bit of corruption and when one or more people are together in the same group that corruption can be enhanced. Not all people act out in a bad manner, but most people do. In comparison to the Iks, I believe our society is just like them, if not worse. To get what one wants, that person will travel in groups or as a corporate body to have that feeling of empowerment over others in smaller groups or over an individual.

In, “The Invisible,” a movie about a teenage boy named, Nick Powell, shows a great deal of examples of Ik like behaviors. In the movie, Nick Powell, must try to solve the mystery of his murder before he ultimately dies for good. Sometime at the beginning of the movie, Nick, is viciously attacked by a group and left for dead. It...
