Annual Report Project

Instructions

Purpose and Overview:

This course includes a group project involving analysis of an annual report of a public company. The purpose of this project is to help you understand the content of an annual report and how various users analyze accounting information to make decisions. The project is designed to help you navigate your way through an actual annual report of a public company and use information from the report to make investment and credit decisions. The project will culminate in a written report and include the following items:

• Cover page

• Table of contents

• Introduction of the company giving a history of the company, its products or services, and its industry

• Overview of the company’s performance for the year and projected outlook for next year

• Summary analysis of the company’s liquidity, profitability, and long-term solvency based on your ratio analysis

• SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats)

• Summary and recommendations on investing and lending decisions regarding your company

• Reference page (no particular style required)

• Appendix of components of the annual report – See page 3

• Appendix of detailed calculations of ratios

Information on each of the above items is discussed further in these instructions. You should read chapters 3 and 5 of your textbook and use them as a guide and resource for explanations and examples. You should also use other resources (e.g. company website, electronic databases, news releases, etc.) to gather information on your company. Your report should be double spaced, minimum font size of 12, well written, with appropriate attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure and paragraph structure. The report should be between 15-18 pages (not including the reference page or appendices) and should include page numbers.
