The managerial communication strategic approach to communication will have three distinct layers of communication context. The layers will be contain interdependencies of each other but will also affect each other concurrently. . As Hynes explains, the person communicating the message, the message receiver, the message purpose, and the company at hand are all interrelated. Throughout this report the three layers will be discussed in order and an analysis of a particular circumstance regarding the use strategic approach to communication will also be examined. (Hynes 2016)

Hynes Model

The first layer of the strategic approach according to Hynes includes the communication climate within an organization and also the cultural context of the communication.(Hynes 2016) The first layer needs to be analyzed in order for management to accurately develop a communication strategy. An open and inviting climate can provide easier communication within an organization. The more “open” the communication channels are the more trusting the organization’s employees may be. Adversely, the less or more restrictive communication within an organization the less trust the organization’s employees may have. (Hynes, 2016)

Cultural context is the second component in the first layer and is something that is present with all communication. National culture is an aspect that can determine how we communicate within every organization. (Hynes, 2016) One such example of workplace culture can be the dress code required to work at the organization. If an organization requires professional business attire, it may be viewed as a more formal place to work and therefore employees may prefer and require formal modes of communication rather than casual modes.
